The first record to mention La Scheggia is a sales agreement, dated 8th February 1321.
Witness of the deed is a certain Priest called Cambio, the rector of the local church of San Biagio of "La Schiegra" (Scheggia), which is the core of the current settlement. The second quotation is from a report drawn up by the Apostolic Visitor dating back to 1583. In this report the church of San Biagio and the adjacent church of Santa Lucia are described as rundown buildings. Because they no longer complied with the standards of decorum and veneration imposed after the Council of Trent, the Apostolic Visitor gave orders to demolish them. |
